The Development Of Alternative Energy Fuel Sources

If we are to survive as a species, we need to recognize that alternative energy fuel sources must be explored to it's fullest. Considering we have a limited amount of fossil fuels left to extract and burn, and even burning what we have is creating serious problems. Even thought there is a degree of controversy concerning global warming and experts fail to agree on exactly how severe the damage is, there is no doubt that burning carbon dioxide emitting fuel is having significant negative effect on our planet.

We, as a race, must work to develop a far greater future through the use of clean renewable alternative fuel energy. With the abundant resources of our planet, there more than enough capacity for energy production using alternate means. If we look at solar power alone, which the potential to provide the whole planet with more than enough energy. Regrettably, the expense involved in the production of solar power currently makes it impractical for many of the world's population, but technology is improving constantly.

Where there is an abundance of sunlight, solar photovoltaic technology is being applied. These place are usually where there are an abundance of high tech and well funded companies who are carrying out this important work. The key players in the race to develop solar power as a sustainable worldwide phenomenon are working with small scale test operations. As successes are being realized, they are scaling up for commercial use in large areas of the world. However, it will need international cooperation to be able to achieve the results we need. Needles to say, some of the best areas for the location of solar energy plants are in Africa, Due to the country's impoverished state it will need multi-country development for the project to succeed.

It should also be noted that the greatest potential in conquering the energy crises lies in combining different sources of alternative fuel energy. In countries like the United Kingdom, for example, there is not enough land space and the climate is contrary to making a future entirely dependent on solar power. What Britain does have, though, is enough offshore wind capacity to provide at least three times the amount of electricity the country needs. A future that is sustained by alternate energy can be created by combining the renewable technologies, and utilizing them in the most suitable regions.

Hydrogen is also a wonderful storage system for energy. Hydrogen can store energy and have it available for use whenever it is needed. This is what needs to be overcome, the difficulty that renewable sources can be inconsistent and unreliable. For example, at times of low sunlight, or of calm seas, energy production will be less than when conditions are ideal. Due to these conditions, alternative energy has been slow to increase in popularity as these flaws has to be overcome. Yet when we look at hydrogen, it solves the problem completely. Solar to hydrogen and wind to hydrogen technologies, can create a sustainable future based on alternative energy fuel that makes sense..
